And as you might have discovered by now, it is unbearable. Q: so, things have to change A: the sooner the better Q: is maintaining such a strong army part of the proactive strategy? A: yes. So I paused for a moment, waiting for him to expound. Luckily he did. ( he continued) Look, Tigray has at least 2700 years of nation state history. For significant portion of that span of time, Tigray was a hegemonic kingdom (#AxumiteEmpire). During its illustrious history, the number of times Tigray was involved in wars can be counted in one hand’s fingers. That was anomalous, especially for a nation which attained super power status. History tells us nations achieve and maintain power through conquering and conquest. Not in the case Tigray. But there is an entity, Tigray has engaged in war with than any country in the world. ( long pause) (He continued) Do you know which country? Ethiopia. Tigray was involved in war with Ethiopia as much times with the rest of the world. By this time I was mesmerized by the commander’s knowledge, and I didn’t want him to stop or interrupt him. And he went on… Look, in the last 150 years, every successive Ethiopian government has declared war on Tigray, - @emperor_menelik -@HaileSlassie -#Derg -#EPRDF -#ProperityParty How ironic? The people of Tigray has sacrificed for the prevalence of Ethiopia more than any other ethnic group in country. The people of Tigray protected Ethiopia from foreign invaders and liberated it from fascist regime. Notwithstanding, for the Ethiopians, Tigray has become an enemy. Go figure. And now they’re gearing up for another war. This vicious cycle has to come to an end. Hence the next war will be the war to end all wars against our beloved nation....

A WAR TO END ALL WARS To those of you who follow the the geopolitics of the #hornofafrica the anticipated renewal of war between #Ethiopia and #Tigray wouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, the ominous messages are evident. We have been bombarded by panoply of propaganda of the Ethiopian regime regarding its intention. But many of you are also somewhat in the dark about what the other side (the Tigray leadership) thinks about all that. Thankfully, as we speak, the #TigrayGovernment is conducting a series of public forums. Basically, the theme of those town hall sessions can be summarized as a call for mobilization. Such open call to arms campaigns may seem new to a casual observer of Tigray politics but, covertly Tigray has been all loaded and ready to go for quite sometime. Allow me to clarify. I have just returned from a visit to Tigray. In the course of my sojourn, one of the things I was eager about was to find out the level of preparation being undertaken in the face of the imminent threat. I have a personal reason for being inquisitive. You see, in January 2020, ten months before the start of the genocidal war on Tigray, I had written an article titled #BeProudTigraybutnotComplacent in which I pointed out the possibility of a war and appealed to the government of Tigray to be ready for any eventuality or at least—have a contingency plan. Unfortunately, we found out after the commencement of the war that the government didn’t heed the advices of like minded #Tigrayans. Sure, Tigray eventually won the war but it has costed us dearly. So, I wanted to determine if things are different this time. And it didn’t take me time to learn indeed they are. I had the ultimate privilege of watching a unit of the legendary #TDF (Tigray Defence Force) in training. Regarding the level of training I witnessed, it was an owe-inspiring to say the least. What’s more, the moral, the determination and the devotion of the cadets I talked to was reassuring. In the meantime, I had the honour of an audience with one member of the military leadership (a field commander). Our conversation covered multiple issues and on every topic his response was impressive. As I am sure you are to discover soon —the man is not just a military genius, he’s also a formidable political intellect. For the purpose of clarity I am presenting our dialogue in Q&A format. So, without further ado I give you my exchange with the commander. Through out the whole text I will be the one asking and obviously the commander will be the interviewee. Q: the level of training is very intense. A: it ought to be. Our military is conditioned as be able to fight in any environment and situation… not just fight but fight to win. Q: some military analysts imply…#TDF is arguably the most potent force in the region. Are they right? A: first of all, just a heads up, we’re not crazy about the name. Q: which name? A: TDF. It implies we are an army of a regime, authority or a constitution. We are not. We are a voluntary army whose sole purpose and mission is to protect and defend the nation of Tigray and Tigrawaynet (of Tigrayan identity). So, in this context, we are the peoples’ army. We are Tegadelti ( liberation fighters). But I digress. As for the assumptions of the military experts you mentioned… no comment. Q: about the sustained and extensive conditioning of the military…are you anticipating a war with the Ethiopian regime? A: we are at war. We have been since 2020. The type May have changed but the war never ceased. (Long pause) (Continue) The so called Pretoria Peace Agreement has brought anything but peace to the people of Tigray. —Tigray has become a status-less state. —it is not part of Ethiopia, at least not functionally. —40% of our territory is in enemy hands. —over a million of our people have become #IDPS —the Ethiopian regime has cut funding of basic social services....

Eritrea is a shadow proxy of the Sudan war. General Burhan’s brief visit to Asmara this week is the latest sign of deepening coordination between Eritrea and Sudan’s military leadership. Implying that I was supposed to impose self-exiling as a form of protest, isolating myself from family, friends and a country of my birth indefinitely. That was when it started to dawn on me that throughout the war in Tigray, the fog was a whole lot thicker than the regular fog of war. The manipulation was way craftier than run-on-the-mill persuasion. As I repeatedly stated, I NEVER regret that I advocated for people of #Tigray. I vociferously condemned #Eritrea's involvement in the war and #Ethiopian government and its supporters, "otherizing" #Tegaru through toxic propaganda. If any other ethnic group in #Ethiopia is subjected to the same way and level of intensity, I definitely would do it again. However, looking back, I realized I was manipulated in more than few ways. The first one was the unprovoked TPLF attack on Ethiopian 2nd command army base. Which has Ignited the war. For the longest time, I believed that was IMPOSSIBLE and it never happened. Now, I hear TPLF commanders, who are still in charge not only admitted it, but brag about doing it.
